the Skateboard

Why a skateboard? The professor thought it would challenge our compositional and design inspiration skills. The assignment was also for the design to reflect a topic of political debate. Once the topic was chosen, a tone of either a passive aggressive or aggressive voice was decided. I selected a passive aggressive tone that was achieved through a double entendre slogan.

Design inspiration here was drawn from Saul Bass’s body of work. The color palette was dictated by the subject matter, but was manipulated to fit Bass’s style, which to me is bold, flat and blunt. The selected color of green is saturated to create high contrast against the stark negative white space, while the green is also intended to conjure calmness. And of course, the double entendre slogan could be interpreted as either side of this political debate.
